Winston Salem, NC; Crystal Lake, WTOB

I first experienced Beach Music at a young age, probably 10 or so at a swimming pool in Winston Salem called Crystal Lake. That was back in the early 60's.

There was a huge open-air dance floor with a jukebox over the dressing rooms where people would Shag. I guess the correct term back then was fast dancing.

My sister, who is 3 1/2 years older than me, had a tremendous influence on my music tastes. I grew up listening to Major Lance, Temptations, Four Tops, Impressions, Tams, etc.

I attended my first S.O.S. in 1986. Even though I didn't know how to Shag, I still had a great time....

[Greg added that he used to listen to "WTOB in Winston Salem with Dick Bennett. Back then all the music was good." --ed]
